JD and Black Jack
J.D. and Black Jack, nice and comfy in their outdoor tent.

J.D., our golden retriever/yellow lab, is still with us, and plays like all get out with Cabbie. Another dog will wander into our lives soon; they always seem to.

Note:  Sad news, we had to put our 13 year old Golden Retriever J.D. down. He had been ill for a while, and we think he had cancer, but did not want to stress with with a lot of test etc. He was losing weight rapidly. I spent the last several days/nights with him in our rec room, watching T.V.,old movies letting him eat chicken and just hanging out. He went peacefully with me holding him and talking to him, as they say he had a great life and a good death.

Rocky, our Military Macaw who we've had for over 25 years lives in his own heated atrium. He's a beautiful and loveable bird and enjoys watching the squirrels and wild birds that come in the yard each day.

Cabbie, our miniature schnauzer bringing in the San Antonio Express News! It was 28 degrees out and this is her first time wearing a winter sweater. I think she looks stylish!

DEAR READERS:

Sauvignon, or "Savvi," our sweet minature schnauzer (born 1989; passed away 12/10/01).

Our sweet girl, SAUVIGON, THE MINIATURE SCHNAUZER went to doggie heaven on December 10 of last year. She was ready. As the vet said, "this is one tough dog and she is a senior lady of 13 years." She went through two surgeries for bladder stones and three surgeries for tumors (two of them were cancer). At eleven years old she became diabetic, and because of that, went blind a few months later, but she adapted well. She played outside with the other dogs and still barked at the deer!

She was in good shape and not in pain until just a few days before her kidneys stopped functioning. The kidney failure is what turned the tide, and as you know, there are no kidney transplants for dogs -- yet! It was time. David and I were with her. I held her, talked to her, stroked her and she smelled my breath. She was tired. She literally "went to sleep." It was peaceful with no trauma.

This is Cabbie, our miniature schnauzer, born on Halloween. She's now the new "Office Manager." Cabbie is a delightful addition to our office and keeps the gals amused "barking" orders.

As I write this, Cabernet (Cabbie) is at my feet. She will never be a Zinfandel (our first miniature schnauzer) or Savvi, but she has pretty cute paws! Our lives are just not complete without a mini-schnauzer in them, so we have brought another into our hearts; our hearts will be broken again, but it's worth it for all of us.

With Savvi in our hearts
-- Heloise & David

Black Jack
smiling
Black Jack "smiling." He was with us over 10 years. Adopted 1991, when he was about a year old, and passed away 2001.

P.S.: The life span for a mini-schnauzer is 12 - 14 years and maybe a little longer. Savvi really did lead a full and long life.

Black Jack, our black lab/greyhound mix, went to doggie heaven in September of last year also. We adopted him in 1991 when he was about a year old. I found him "asleep" on the back patio one morning.

Woof from Cabbie and hugs from me.

NOTE: If your dog or cat exhibits increased thirst, weight loss or frequent urination, visit the veterinarian. It may not be diabetes, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
