FROM IN THE KITCHEN WITH HELOISE: RECIPES
GENERIC CREAM SOUP BASE
Makes around 4 cups
1 cup nonfat dried milk powder
1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons chicken bouillon powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all the ingredients and store in an air-tight container.
TO MAKE SOUP
2 cups cold water
1/2 cup main ingredient
To make soup: Add the water to the mix in a large saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat until thick. Add the main ingredient of your choice--mushrooms, for example--and cook until done. If the soup is too thick, add more water and stir thoroughly over medium heat.
Add other seasonings of your choice.
COOKIES MADE FROM A CAKE MIX
1 (18.25 ounce) box cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Mix only the above ingredients in a large bowl until blended. Drop the batter by spoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
