So
many of you ask how to make Heloise's "Kitchen Maid," it's time to feature it on
my web site. Here are the directions and a photo of one made in my office. No
two will be exactly alike -- add your own touches and let your imagination take
a ride.
You'll need an ironing board with a cover to begin the "body." Now tie an apron with pockets around the middle to make a "waist" and fill them with smaller kitchen items or utensils. For the arms, attach a plunger on one side of the back of the ironing board and a toilet bowl brush or feather duster on the other. Add a dust pan at the wide end of the ironing board for feet, or for those with a larger budget, set the ironing board on top of a vacuum and secure with a couple of elastic cords under the apron (as in the photo). A string mop becomes her full head of hair by securing it up the back of the ironing board with the "mop" portion flopped over the top narrow end. Some suggestions for the face are nylon net scrubbies for the eyes, a small sponge for the nose and a nailbrush for the mouth.
Be creative, there are other items you can use for the facial features as well. Just remember to make the kitchen maid with anything you think the recipient will need. I'm sure every item will be put to good use!
